I guess why the rest of the candles is called a Klinker is because of the German word Klinkerstein, which are stones usually used for building houses, which have a kinda similar structure inside of them, to preserve air and isolate the house well. Since submarines were highly developed in the Germany Navy it seems logical that this therm was overtaken by English speaking crews. YAW.

@ 23:33 you mention that you are not sure about what the preheating function is all about. It's a regenerative heat exchanger. We use it to heat aimine going into the boiler and cool it before it is sprayed through the nozzle. Cool MEA is more efficient for removing CO2. So not so much of a heater bundle, just a heat exchanger. Note: I'm a submariner who has worked with scrubbers plenty.

First time I think I have a bit of critistism. It's so minor but from the vast knowledge i gained from the show the title just bugs me. Energy can not be created or destroyed. This is the same for what the candle is doing. It's just converting oxygen from one form to another.

We do not inhale o2 and exahale co2 per se. Our lungs filter out o2 from inhaled air and exhale rest of air gasses witch includes co2 amoung others that we inhaled.
What if the navy creates a mini nursery growing marijuana onboard so the co2 can be converted to O?

I wonder how they keep the Oxygen balanced vs. the other gasses we breath on a daily basis. Nitrogen, for instance. TOO much Oxygen results in Oxygen toxicity.
Would have been nice to mention (unless I missed it): the oxygen candles actually store oxygen in a more efficient way in terms of weight than compressed oxygen tanks, which really surprises me. I kept thinking "how is this more efficient than a tank of O2??" Turns out they hold a ton of O2 in them. There are other pros to a tank system, of course, but for what they need them for, the oxygen candles do make sense.
